Why do other sects of Islam claim that Imam Ali's father Abu Talib is in Jannah while the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) say he died in kufr? An Answer to this question:
Neither within the Quran nor the Prophet ever said that Abu Talib was a Kafir/idolater; he instead loved and honored his beloved uncle, and was raised in his household.
This is a problem we must verify, think critically, before we slander AbuTaleb- the beloved uncle of the Prophet, pbuh.
Here is that the point to ponder; is it not God’s special honor to Abu Talib that He gave him the foremost coveted opportunity of knowingly raising, caring, and protecting a Prophet? Who is unaware of the utmost sacrifice that Abu Talib and his family had extended for the reason for Islam, and protecting the Prophet?
Besides, nobody could deny the actual fact that the Prophet had utmost love and respect for his uncle Abu Talib. So, shouldn’t we love and respect him, too - if we actually care about Prophet’s Sunnah?
Abu Talib, while on a business trip to Syria, had child Muhammad with him; a Christian monk named Buhaira told Abu Talib that this child would be the long run Prophet. Abu Talib believed that; so, he knew way before anyone that his nephew would be a Prophet of God. Hence, he took it as a mission of life to shield and support the Prophet, in order that he could do his mission to guide the people to the truth; Abu Talib even risked his own sons’ lives to shield the Prophet.
Fatima Bint Asad (RA) was one amongst the first Muslimas (in fact second, after Khadija(R)) and was the wife of Abu Talib. Rasulallah accustomed call her Mother, and she or he had remained married to Abu Talib (a ‘Mushrik’) until his death.
She had made Hijrah to Medinah and died there. Prophet Muhammad performed her funeral prayer (Janaza) and had shrouded her together with his own garment....
Abu Talib was an honest and a wise man; literate and a good poet even the critics would say. it's said that he had around 3000 poetry to his credit; Dewan E Abu Talib could be a collection of his poems. Here is one in all his poems translated into English praising Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, which is enough as proof that Abu Talib was a firm believer; he believed that Prophet Muhammad was indeed a real Prophet of God:
“Let all of the people know that Muhammad is that the Vazir of Musa and Isa He came to us with guidance which Allah had given him Everyone is guided by their love of Muhammad Allah has honored the Prophet Muhammad And the most honorable of people in general is that the Prophet Muhammad He (Allah) ripped His name Mahmud and brought out (the name) Muhammad By Allah, they (kuffar) will never reach you, their whole group
Until I've got dust completely covering my face! So plow ahead along with your mission You are under my eyes You invited me and knew I used to be a guide to you And you invited me and knew that I used to be trustworthy of you And you invited me because you knew that I knew that Islam is that the greatest religion within the eye of Allah”
Is this poem not an open declaration of Abu Talib’s faith that the Prophet was a real Prophet of God, and his faith in God too?
In Bukhari, there's a narrative that when the Prophet was a baby Abu Talib took him to Kaba and prayed to God (not to Lat, Manat or Ujja) raising his hand, “ O my Lord (Rab), for the sake of this child please give us rain.”
The Hadith in Bukhari -Volume 2, Book 17, Number 122 says that Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, recited the poem of Abu Talib while praying for rain.

We may hear any number of students we like but within the end, it's our responsibility to decide on what we believe and practice, as God says within the Quran:
“You shall not accept any information unless you verify it for yourself. I've got given you the hearing, the eyesight, and therefore the brain, and you're accountable for using them” (Al Quran# 17:36).
Sadly, some people though care about Sunnah, but slander Abu Talib, too, saying that he was an idolater.
