In 1996, he was PM for 13 days.
In 1998– 99, he was PM for 13 months.
On 13 October 1999 he took oath as PM of India for the third time & was PM for full term.
He started writing poetry since childhood. When he was in 10th standard, he wrote his famous fiery poem ‘Hindu Tan Man, Hindu Jeevan, Rag Rag Hindu- Mera parichay’.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his elder brother participated in the Quit India Movement and were even imprisoned for a period of 23 days. As a teenager, Vajpayee jee was jailed briefly for opposing British colonial rule. He flirted with communism before choosing to support the Rashtriya Swamyamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Jan Sangh.
Vajpayee had been the editor of two monthlies—Rashtradharma and Panchjanya. When Atal Bihari Vajpayee delivered his maiden speech in the Indian Parliament, Jawaharlal Nehru (then Prime Minister of India) predicted that someday he would become the Prime Minister of India.
He is the only parliamentarian to win from 6 Lok Sabha constituencies from 4 states. Balrampur (UP), Lucknow (UP), New Delhi, Vidisha (MP), Gwalior (MP), Gandhi Nagar (Gujarat). He was also member of Rajya Sabha for two terms. He remained an M. P. (Member of Parliament) for 47 years (11 times from Lok Sabha and 2 times from Rajya Sabha): One of the longest-serving parliamentarian.
He uplifted Hindi to the international platform by speaking in Hindi at the United Nations; he became the first person to speak in Hindi at the United Nations.
On 13 May 1998, he led the successful nuclear test named- Operation Shakti at Pokhran in Rajasthan and put India in the league of the world’s elite nuclear club. For so many coincidences with number 13, he was also known as 'Master of 13'.
He started ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’, one of the globally largest education programmes to provide basic education to every child in India.
