Out from the tournament - Why were Hardik Pandya's 5 crore watches seized at Mumbai Airport?
Customs officials apprehended Pandya as he returned from Dubai following India's elimination from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, seizing two watches valued at Rs. 5 crore from him. The officials stated that he failed to have a receipt for the watches which he didn't declare them as customs merchandise.
On Tuesday, Team India cricketer Hardik Pandya issued an evidence for the seizure of two of his watches by the Mumbai customs department on Sunday night. Pandya stated that he visited the Mumbai airport's customs counter voluntarily to declare the things he brought and pay the desired customs.
Hardik Pandya made a press release on Twitter, claiming that the watches were worth a complete of 1.5 crore, not 5 crore, as reports on social media suggested. Last year, his brother and cricketer Krunal Pandya was detained at the Mumbai airport for not declaring as many as four luxury watches to Customs. The Mumbai Indians star reportedly said that he had no idea about the declaration procedure and duty.
