I lived in 27 Houses in my lifetime across 10 cities & 9 states in India.
I moved 7 houses till I was staying with my parents. My dad had a transferable job so we kept moving every few years. We were staying on rent in all places. We never had our own house. The maximum we stayed in a house was 8 yrs. We moved 5 cities.
Then I kept moving for my education & then with my jobs. I never stayed in any house for long. The maximum I have stayed in any house is 8 years. I lived in 5 cities. I moved 20 houses.
At one point my family got tired moving homes. I used to enjoy the change.
I never had a house I could identify from childhood or later. So if anyone asks where are you from. I say I am a true Indian.
Apart from the 2 houses I stayed in for 8 years each, I moved houses quickly.
Only 2 houses of these were independent homes rest were all flats.
I have lived in a home with no windows too
One of the houses I lived in had no running water.
I learnt several things as I kept moving houses:
1. Adapting to any person or environment: I learnt to adjust anywhere & live with different kinds of people.
2. No attachment: I learnt to be happy anywhere. I lived in a slum & a 7 bedroom house & a penthouse too. They were all learning experiences.
3. Everything is temporary: This was my biggest learning. I knew I would not be long at any place.
4. Peace is within: The outside can never give you peace your inside can.
In my head I am still a vagabond. Maybe its time to move again
What about you?
What did you learn?
