I became a freelancer by volunteering & social work in our constituency of Mumbadevi. I picked up skills. This took roughly a decade. If you already have a skill you can skip this step. For some folks it may take 3-6 months to learn a skill. Working for free is the fastest & easiest way to learn.
Then I started to look for my first customer.
This took also a month. I started to message 10 founders everyday to help in their startup.
I would speak to 2-3 founders everyday. One of them agreed to give me work.
Within a few months I had work to do. Slowly I started to get more clients.
The process was not difficult. As long as you are focussed on learning things move fast. The moment one starts to focus on money things slow down.
Once you become better on the skills you can charge more. If your skills become at an expert level you can become a consultant.
A consultant is paid several times that of a freelancer.
The key ingredient here is patience & time.
You have to give yourself time. You need to keep working hard on it everyday.
