Employee referrals in many large firms account for nearly half of the hiring. This works well both for the prospective employees & for the company because there is a common connect. Also there is seriousness from the prospective employee since he has an existing relationship. This can happen only when you network well.
All other ways are much tougher to get results.
The other way that works well is when the recruiter calls you, it could be an internal recruiter or an HR consulting firm. The only reason why a recruiter will call you is when you have an impressive profile. You can create an impressive profile when you work on building your brand.
So Networking & Brand Building are the best ways to find a job.
