Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment: A landmark but many oldest street-A landmark roads were encroached upon

Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment: Two (many) main streets & roads were encroached upon, says complainant several complainant through RTI to Govt. of Maharashtra Many including myself, Yusuf Bhandarkar, has claimed to be one in all the complainants against the Bhendi Bazaar cluster redevelopment project saying many lanes are being encroached upon within the guise of redevelopment and therefore specially the entrance to the Dhanbadi Masjid situated at Saifee Jubilee street near Chor Bazaar is being blocked. The BMC has stalled the project citing residents’ complaints over changes within the plan and concerns over the standard of labor. One of the complainant said, “For many months, I've got been writing letters to the chief minister predecessor and successor Govt. about the irregularities in SBUT project and now the BMC has stumble upon the identical irregularities that were mentioned in complaint letters and has issued a stop-work notice to them.” Residents demand for 'irregularities' - The complainant says people can’t access one entrance of the Dhanbadi Masjid because of the project - The complainant says people can’t access one entrance of the Dhanbadi Masjid - I'm the frequent visitor of 5 times since my childhood - thanks to the project In his complaints to the BMC in April and July, he wrote, “SBUT has encroached/captured street of Saifee Jubilee Street by installing antipersonnel bomb tin sheets on each side of the road. In such some way that the blue tin sheets are completely blocking the doorwayof spiritual places [Dhanbadi Mosque] and other people coming from the Nagpada side are unable to enter the Mosque and also the helpless people should go all the way around from Mohammed Ali Road to come back to the Masjid which is causing plenty of inconvenience to the people because it is wasting plenty of individual time & energy [sic].” A BMC official spoke off the record: “The trustees of Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust [SBUT] which is executing the project replaced Tricon because the project’s contractor and hired a neighborhood contractor. Residents in their complaints alleged that the trustees also changed the layout of the plan. Residents have raised concerns over the standard of labor.” Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on August 24 announced within the Assembly that the BMC would probe the project and also the stop work issued by BMC on August 27th 2022. He said that the initial plan was changed, the width of roads reduced and more area was given to developers. Three days later, the stop-work notice came. SBUT has maintained that there are no irregularities within the layout. “The work has been applied as per the plans approved. the complete project has been planned as per the provisions of Development Control Regulations 33 [9] and is being applied in line with the approvals and permissions of all concerned authorities. The Trust will still cooperate with MCGM [BMC] and other government authorities while they review the matter,” an SBUT spokesperson had said. ‘Stop work’ notice issued to SBUT project in Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazaar over ‘irregularities’ The notice comes within the wake of a discussion within the Maharashtra law-makers on the project following which Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said the alleged irregularities are going to be probed. The redevelopment project covers 16.5 acres with quite 250 decrepit buildings, 3,200 families and 1,250 shops.

After a debate within the Maharashtra legislaturewithin which irregularities were alleged within the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) project, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a ‘stop work’ notice to the project which aims to providean entire makeover to the Bhendi Bazar area and supply better houses for its existing residents. The notice was issued Saturday by executive engineer Rajesh Dholay of the BMC’s building proposal department. It said that if the SBUT didn'tgo with the notice, the department will take action against it under the BMC Act and also the Maharashtra Regional city planning Act. “There was a discussion within the Assembly and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he will comment on it. Hence, we decided to issue a ‘stop work’ notice,” a deputy city engineer of the department said to our correspondence of The Mumbai Multimedia Studio News Team Speaking within the assembly on Thursday - August 24th, Fadnavis said irregularities within the rehabilitation project were to be probed. He said that the plan of SBUT was changed, the width of roads reduced and more area was given to developers. “I have asked the municipal commissioner to probe who has done corruption and irregularities within the project,” the deputy chief minister said. But Alas! the work still ongoing in full swing - there ready mix plant operating round the clock. A statement from the SBUT spokesperson said, “In accordance with the unexpected notice from the BMC, we've got ceased all construction work on the positioning. This upliftment project is positively impacting the lives and livelihoods of around 25,000 people and upgrading the dilapidated infrastructure of Bhendi Bazaar. the complete project has been planned as per the provisions of Development Control Regulations 33(9) and is being distributed in line with the approvals and permissions of all concerned authorities.” “The project has already improved the living standards of over 610 families and 128 business establishments due to completion of the primary phase… We stay fully committed to delivering on the aspirations of the remaining tenants moreover, by relocating them back to their new premises at the earliest,” it said, adding: “As per deputy CM Devendra Fad Navis recent statement within the assembly that the Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment may be a landmark project and work won't be stopped, we are positive that the notice are lifted soon. The trust to suits BMC and other government authorities while they review the matter. Conclusion and Bottom Line on the Project: Who is the responsible for this modus operandi?? The local MLA, the local corporator, the BMC, the MHADA, the Local Police, or other involved in this un safety, un environmental, un cleanliness, untidy projects as two worker's already death due to overhead crane accident, also two to three bldgs. collapsed during ongoing execution of the said projects. How many more fatal injuries occurred to due safety violations - irregularities in work permits etc..???? Yusuf Bhandarkar www.multimediastudio.net email: multimediastudio9@gmailcom - 7977231537
