The Licensing Unit of Delhi police have denied permission to Standing comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show within the metropolis, which was scheduled to be place on Sunday.
This comes after the central district police wrote a report back to the unit stating that “the show will affect communal harmony within the area.”
Earlier in the week, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had also written to Delhi commissioner Sanjay Arora, seeking the cancellation of Faruqui’s show and said that the workers of the VHP and Bajrang Dal will hold a protest if the show isn't been cancelled.
The cancellation of the Delhi show comes per week after the Bengaluru police had denied permission to his show ‘Dongri to nowhere’ in Karnataka’s capital, which was scheduled to require place on August 20.
The Bengaluru event was cancelled because the organisers had not taken permission to organise it within the city, police had said.
Notably, a fringe outfit Jai Shri Ram Sena had lodged a complaint against the comedian and therefore the organisers with Bengaluru commissioner CH Pratap Reddy.
In its complaint, the outfit alleged that Faruqui has hurt Hindu sentiments in his shows by making insulting remarks against Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.
The comedian was earlier denied permission to perform in the city in November 2021 on the identical ground.
