It was during the set of the film 'Abdullah' (1978) within the city of Jaisalmer. It involved the famous actor Sanjay Khan. On an out of doors schedule, the actor came and directly proposed to Zeenat. Sanjay married Zeenat within the presence of two witnesses within the hotel. During that point, Sanjay was already a mate and a father to a few children.
Zeenat described herself as "naive and vulnerable" at that point. She revealed that she had a secret crush for Sanjay Khan from the time since their first meeting. She revealed that she had meetings with Sanjay during the intervals between the schedules within the set.
However, Sanjay didn't acknowledge the legality of his marriage with Zeenat in various interviews. Facing increasing pressure from her family and growing media speculation, the couple decided to part ways within the following year.
But Sanjay didn't want to complete the drama there. He would call Zeenat everytime he heard of her being engaged to an actor or industrialist. In 1980 when Zeenat was shooting during a hill station named Lonavala, she received a call from Sanjay again. Sanjay ordered her to fulfill with him in Mumbai. Zeenat explained to him that she was already engaged to an actor. However Sanjay demanded that she should immediately meet with him. Fearing that Sanjay would reveal the reality of their marriage, Zeenat had no option but to satisfy with him.
Zeenat heard that Sanjay was at Taj Hotel during that point. She decided to satisfy him there. it had beena foul decision. it had been reported that she was assaulted by Sanjay who was in an intoxicated state. Such was her condition that she had to be rushed to a close-by hospital. Zeenat recovered after eight days but she permanently damaged her left eye.
Surprisingly, she didn't report back to the police about Sanjay's conduct. In spite of advices of her well-wishers, she resolved to not report Sanjay and push the strain furthur.
