July 25, 1190: Sibylla, Queen of Jerusalem, died of fever in the military camp at Acre. The eldest daughter of King Amalric I of Jerusalem and Agnes of Courtenay, she ascended the throne upon the death of her son, King Baldwin V. She was crowned sole Queen but chose Guy de Lusignan as her husband and had him crowned. Though she had shown great political prowess dealing with her opposition, the kingdom's finest fighters were routed at the Battle of Hattin and Jerusalem beseiged. Sibylla personally led the defense, but the city fell. She was allowed to leave by Saladin and eventually rejoined by her husband, following him to Acre and her death.
