What is the Secret of Success in corporate jobs?
1. Working hard, longer hours
2. Playing Politics
3. Managing people & emotions
4. Having deep skills/expertise & learning fast
I did all except playing politics, which is where I struggled. Having deep skills/expertise & learning fast help you get ahead of the crowd. Managing people & emotions help you have good relationships which help you in career progression.
But if you were to ask me which is most important it is managing people & emotions.
Todays job market is dependent on skills & expertise. If you have them you get hired. But if you cant manage people & emotions well you may not grow fast.
I have seen some people doing well by playing politics.
But does it work in the long run?
