1-2 yrs
2-3 yrs
3-4 yrs
4-5 yrs
In most MNC roles you need roughly 4-5 hrs of working well to complete your days work.
In most cases one will be working at least 10-12 hrs in a normal day in a startup. In most startups you may also be working 6-7 days a week. In large organisations 5 day working is generally the case.
If you do the maths, one year in a startup will be roughly equal to 3-4 yrs of working in a large organisation.
It is not just volume of work. But the very nature of a startup ensures that you pick many skills in HR, Marketing, Finance, Operations. In a large organisation you may be doing a small piece of work within one area. Also since you are directly interacting with customers you learn business faster.
If you are the founding member or founder in a startup the quality & quantity of work is even more. One year of working in a startup as a founder or founding member may be equal to 4-5 yrs of working in a large organisation.
Early stage startups may be even more learning. Any startup with less than 25 employees will give you even better quality learning.
The best part is that you can play leadership roles much faster in a startup. It is not uncommon for a 25 year old to be playing the role of a senior manager in a startup.
So if you want to fast track your career just join a early stage startup. The risk is definitely higher in an early stage startup. Most startups close down in their first few years itself. But even if you can work for a year your career would have gone years ahead others.
One year of working in a startup is probably many times better than doing an MBA - The best part is that you get paid for it.
This has been my experience.
