"Distraction is the only thing that consoles us for miseries and yet it is itself the greatest of our miseries.” - Blaise Pascal
An empty mind makes us feel empty. We all fear emptiness & being nothing. Hence the chattering mind gives us some relief. Maybe even a reason to exist.
My mind chatters when I allow it to move to the past or future. Past is fears, future is worries. Also when it moves to the past or future I don't feel good. As I think of it more it chatters more. I get hooked on to it.
When I write, meditate or observe the chattering goes away. It goes away because I am not participating in the chattering. If you don't participate then nothing happens. This is a peaceful state to be in.
Chattering of the mind is a habit, it can become a compulsive habit.
Fear of empty-ness maybe something that makes us participate in the chattering.
The cause for chattering is when we cant separate from the chattering mind. The moment we do the chattering will go away. The mind & me are different this thought when implemented can free us from everything.
